History
Polaris® has been deeply rooted in the powersport industry for decades. The company's journey began in 1945. Brothers Edgar and Allan Hetteen, along with their close friend David Johnson, created Hetteen Hoist & Derrick Shop which functioned as a repair shop for farm equipment. It wasn't long until they began exploring the powersport industry, developing their first snowmobile in 1954. By 1955, when the snowmobile was ready to be introduced to the market, they marked this momentous moment by adopting a new name, Polaris®. Their invention of the snowmobile would impact the powersport industry for decades to come. Polaris® was officially a name to be reckoned with!
Over the next several decades Polaris® would expand its product offerings, pioneering the ATV and UTV markets. Polaris® introduced their ATVs to the market in 1985, in the form of the “Trail Boss”. Many consider the Trail Boss to be the first American made ATV. The ATV had innovative features like independent rear suspension, automatic transmissions, four-wheel drive, full floorboards, high-bore four-stroke engines, and many other advancements. UTVs wouldn't be introduced to the market until the 1990s, at which point Polaris® began researching their own type of UTV. After years of engineering, Polaris® released the Ranger®, a six-wheel utility vehicle. The release was a success, though after some further research and development, it was decided the Ranger® no longer needed the two extra wheels. In 2000 Polaris® released the new and improved four-wheel Ranger®, which was received well by the market. Since then, Polaris® has continued to produce innovative products for the powersport industry!
